Bienvenidos A Fleischmanns is an intimate portrait of an Hispanic immigrant community living in a small village in rural New York state. In 1986, a few Mexican families moved to central upstate NY looking for a more tranquil way of life. Years before, these families had emigrated from the state of Puebla, Mexico to Newburg, NY. But deteriorating economic conditions, crime and inferior schools led them to find a better situation for their families. Twenty years later, the Hispanic community in Fleischmanns accounts for 30% of the population. Bienvenidos reveals how these families have assimilated through successful businesses and the success of second generation children in the local school system -- with the help of a welcoming Anglo community.
